This was gleaned from old Diamonds:
The Spring '71 Softball team finished witha 7-0 record. In Autumn of '72 Psi U finished second in volleyball. Spring of '73 our softball season record was 2-4. In the winter of '76, we made the bowling semi-finals.
In the Fall of 1993 the Gamma Tau's participated in the intramural Football tournament. Our season ended 3-2-0.
In the Winter of 1994 the Gamma Tau's participated in the intramural basketball and soccer tournaments. At the end of the season, our basketball record was 2-3-0. However, to offset our good luck in the other sports, soccer ended up being 0-4-1. We're proud of our one non- lose in the soccer season, even though it was against the band and the score was 0-0. We just had some awesome defense, that's all.
Swimming event
As told by Lucas Grote
At eight pm on Tuesday, 10 May 94, we registered and waited around 'till ten to actually run the event. The purpose of this event was to see who could swim a relay fastest while wearing a sweatshirt. At the end of each length the swimmer had to jump out and put the wet sweatshirt on the next swimmer. The first length was run by Lucas, then followed by Wade Anderson, James Mitchell, and finally Chester Kam. Alum Pete Chen was along as our cheering section.
Luke (me) got off to a late start because the guy next to me took off before the whistle was blown. I hesitated, thinking that a restart would be called. Nope. I jumped in and swam as fast as I could to catch up. The swim was a lot more difficult with the extra bulk. We were racing against one other fraternity and two sororities. I caught up with the two sororities by the end of my length. We were still behind the other fraternity, though. We knew how to change the shirt fastest, so we made up some time. By the time Wade finished his length we were in first (Wade swims well, and all the others took more time to change the shirts). James and Chester opened the lead even more. In the end, we were a lap ahead.
This is the best part of the whole event. Pete was cheering us on. Some guys from the other fraternity were sitting next to Pete. They proceeded to give Pete crap for me being the last in the water. Soon afterwards we were in the lead, so Pete felt obliged to return the favor of beratement tenfold. Go Psi U!
The 'Rack 'Em Up' Pool Tournament Story
As told by Chris Lawyer
I trained long and hard for the tournament. For three weeks I ate nothing but raw eggs. Wait. That had nothing to do with anything. I was just too lazy to cook my eggs. Anyway, I spent the night before the tournament meditating quietly and watching "The Hustler" four times for inspiration.
Finally, the hour of the tournament arrived. I calmly walked up to the equipment area and checked out a regular pool cue. I felt confident in my abilities as a pool player and didn't want to scare the others off by bringing my own stick. And besides, most of the people who brought their own sticks turned out to be wussies...
It was my turn. I went to break the balls, and heard angelic harmonies in the background. Clearly, I had fate on my side. I managed to sink nine balls before my luck ran out, including one shot that barely went in, and only did so because Chester "Yoda" Kam was there to subtly telekinetically nudge the ball into the pocket. Two other people sank eleven balls, making me third overall. Truly a glorious day for Psi U...
